This television is perfect. We absolutely love it. The best part is we did not have to fight the crowds at Wal-mart on the day after Thanksgiving to get it. We paid the same price for it and it was delivered right to our door.

I have had the HL50A650 for one month. The picture quality is as good as any plasma or lcd hdtv that I have seen. There is no trace of bluring or loss of resolution in high movement movies such as Transformers.br /br /The Amazon price for this hdtv was competitive and much, much less than the other technologies.br /br /The picture needed very little adjustment during setup which was extremely easy. The only aspect which required some thought was getting the picture format correct for my cable as I do not subscribe to the high definition channels and must up sync sdtv.br /br /As with all DLP there is a foreshortened viewing angle so the TV horizontal centerline should be mounted at eye level.br /br /I am going to purchase the 3D accessory so that when the hdtv 3d format is instituted I can view them on this set.

No joke, when I was looking for samsung 50 widescreen hd 1080p dlp television the other day, I was having one heck of a time finding it online. When I did finally find it, I made sure I bought it quickly. What follows is my review.
I was impressed with samsung 50 widescreen hd 1080p dlp television plain and simple. When I placed my order, I had in in my hands within 3 days and that’s no joke. The key is looking for a seller with over a 100 feedback rating on Ebay. I’ve even included an Ebay listing to samsung 50 widescreen hd 1080p dlp television in this review to make it even easier on you.

When the tv was working, I generally liked it purely because of its size and price. Getting a good brightness and color setting for the screen is challenging. There is a very narrow range of view angles for optimal quality - directly in front of the screen and near eye-level. Otherwise, the picture is dim. It’s frustrating to see such a big difference just from standing versus sitting in the same spot. I haven’t had any other DLPs to compare this to.br /br /I can’t comment on HD. SD is acceptable for normal programming, although I’m sure HD would look snazzy. Sports can be frustrating to watch at this size in SD, though.br /br /The #1 problem with mine is that the volume spontaneously goes all the way up to 100, and unplugging the set for several minutes is the only solution. This happened within an hour of getting it off the truck, but then didn’t happen again for maybe a month. After it had happened a few times, I called Samsung for repairs. After 2.5 weeks in the shop, it just came back today - worse than before. I had it on for ~15 minutes at a time, then the volume cranked up and it had to be unplugged for several minutes. So for now, its only use is as a big expensive digital photo viewer. br /br /It’s probably a bad sign that while this tv was in the shop for two and a half weeks, I really didn’t miss it.

So I have had it for 7 months now. See my earlier review below. I had the problem of Image break up and then losing signal. One tech didn’t know what to do. The next Techs almost fixed the problem by changing two capacitors that were underpowered so they over heated. They gave up. The next new of the problem and said the entire boards in both the TV and transmitter would have to be replaced. A month has passed. Guess what. Samsung dropped wireless TVs. They have given up and are willing to make a full replacement with a PN 50A 650. To the ones who have it. There is a problem. If you get break of image contact Samsung. Also. Since I am in California I have noticed it occurs when the house is warm, say close to 80 degrees. If the room Temp is more like 68 then it only slightly happens or it takes 1.5 hours instead of 10 minutes. Sorry guys this TV is a Bust and Samsung knows it.br /br /br /br /……………….br /br /br /I see some of you are having the issues I am having. Love the look and idea of this TV. The delay well you can’t get around it. I was told. “It is not a gaming TV.” I was told it was just the burn in problem. But I never new about the delay. I rigged up my home theater and there was a delay. Then I got the manual and yes you have to plug your HDMI cables in and the audio has to come from the transmitter box to your amp. Works fine then.br /br /Now the big problem is that the image breaks up and then goes off and the TV looks for the transmitter again. The AC effects it. The phone effects it. At least that is the problem right now. The LOCAL samsung engineers found that there are 2 capacitors under powered and heat up. These need to be replace from a 10 watt to a 24watt. Well I thought this did it. For about an hour. Same problems. Today it was the wireless phone. Closer I got it basically didn’t work at all. So far it’s a useless TV. We shall see what happens in the next week. But if someone next door turns on a phone and it can screw your TV up that’s a piece of junk that should have never been released. So far the Samsung people say ya so what. We’ll see what we can do if not that’s the way it is. I’m going to start to talk with Best Buy to see if they will give me something else. Yet my whole room is set up for a wireless TV. As in I’d need a 40′ HDMI cable or tear the whole room apart again and through money down the drain. Sucks.

Bought this mount through Amazon. It is heavy and well constructed. However, there were two major flaws in design. On my particular mount, I managed to install the wall bracket level. However, when I mounted the TV, I noted that it was tilted. There is no way to adjust the tilt except for taking the mounting plate off the wall and re drilling the holes into the studs. There is also no way to adjust the tv to go up and down a few millimeters. This is essential if you’d like to mount your TV in a cabinet with a face frame.br / Also, my TV, a 52 inch Bravia, was too heavy for the mount. The TV ends up facing downwards. Even tightening the hinge bolts with a socket wrench and knobs was not enough to stop the TV from tilting down. br /This unit came in a box that had obviously been opened in the past and the hardware pack that came with the unit had double the screws and washers needed to install. I suspect that I got a returned item that was out of alignment and they shipped it out to me anyway.br /br /Overall, a badly designed system.

The company who delivered was very professional. They carried the (heavy) TV where I wanted it in the house and asked me if I wanted it unpacked. I did so they carefully unpacked it, installed the base and carried away all the packing material. I don’t know if this is standard or not. I was expecting them to drop it onto my porch after signing for it, to be honest.br /br /The instuctions were very easy to read but you really don’t even need them. The TV on screen menu takes you through setup and in just a few minutes, I had an excellent picture just through “over the air” channels. After hooking up cable, I couldn’t believe it. I was in TV heaven!br /br /I went with the 720P version of this HDTV after realizing that Blu-Ray and digital TV have a long way to go before the coolest technologies come out to market. Besides, Consumer Reports rated this model at the top of the 720P models available and it’s a Samsung. I figured this would not be my last HDTV so I decided to save some money now. I wanted something that would provide me with an excellent picture up to 1080i while I waited for the HDTV market to mature. br /br /I cannot see what the draw is for re-purchasing all your old movies again in Blu-Ray format when most people wouldn’t even notice the picture difference between 1080i and 1080P. Instead, I decided to up-convert my huge DVD collection (with my $36.00 up-converting DVD player) and wait for Blu-Rays to be available for a buck from Redbox. By that time, the cost of the players should be down to $50.00 or so.br /br /The picture quality is truly remarkable even at 720P. I have friends with 1080P HDTVs and I believe my picture is clearer and brighter than theirs and quite frankly, any TV I have seen. There is a glare issue. You’ll want to install the TV with that in mind but I don’t think the problem is any worse than it was with the old style CRT TVs. You just notice it a bit more because the screen is so much larger.br /br /I can’t speak for reliability because I have only had it a couple of weeks but if it’s anything like all my other Samsung LCD products, I’ll be very happy. So far, all the research indicates they have worked out all the of the problems associated with the original plasma HDTVs. Samsung has a section about this in the user manual in case you want to play it safe.br /br /By all means, buy this product. You won’t be sorry!
