This was one of those sight unseen purchases based upon a glowing review in Consumer Reports. It’s everything it was said to be. Razor sharp images, very nice sound from the two internal speakers (we subsequently purchased a Samsung home theater system “in a box”) and more inputs/outputs than one could possibly need. If it has one “fault” it’s the NYC size telephone directory owners manual and a remote control that I suspect has a feature to beam one aboard the mother ship (still to be confirmed). Highly recommended!

TV arrived and was set up by delivery service. The picture is perfect. My cats are afraid of it because its monstrous… which is awsome. If you hug it it keeps you warm. (yes I do hug it).

Product is as pictured. Quality is fantastic. The customer service was amazing. We ordered the television at 8:30 PM and had it by 5PM the next day…can’t beat that, especially with free shipping.

I’ve shopped for an HDTV for years..seen them all. This is the best, clearest picture I’ve ever seen. Picture rivals $3500 Pioneer I saw for half the price. No motiuon blur, good even with non HD channels!! Initial set up is a breeze. I would recommend this TV bigtime !!!

  • 5 Nahas

Overall the picture is great on this television—and plasma is certainly the way to go over LCD. I am very happy with the picture and feature set…although a couple of things about the menu controls are a little screwy, but they are just minor annoyances.

I’ve owned this tv for 6 months now,and I’m very satisfied with the picturebr /quality and options. The sound could be better but is fine when using Onkyobr /reciever.Picture quality for video games and dvd playback is excellent. My HD Direct TV picture looks awesome on this unit. There is some glare from br /lighting in the house or the sun, but its not as bothersome as some other tv’s.I have had no problems with this tv.Everything works as it should.br /I would highly recomend this tv to anyone looking for the best picture, biggest size, and best price. After all, thats why I bought it!

I bought this TV in January and loved it. Eventually I noticed a flickering problem where the screen brightness would flicker up and down. Read about it on the AVS forums and got it fixed through Samsung support. Then I noticed the image retention. If you play any xbox 360 games or watch tv in 4:3 with sidebars it will show up. You can run the screen burn in program that will eventually wipe it off but it always comes back next time you play. Ever play GTA4? See that radar in the bottom left? That is always going to be on your TV after you are done playing. The longer you go without wiping it with the cleaner the longer it will stay on there. If you play video games do yourself a favor and don’t buy this set. I sold mine and am saving for another set preferably LCD. I just wanted to warn people trying to decide which set to buy. Avoid this set.

I’ve had this tv for under a year. The image retention (IR) is progressively getting worse. At this point, if there is a static graphic on the screen for as short as 3-5minutes, I’ll have IR for several minutes after. And yes, I have all the settings that are supposed to deter this problem. Note on page 3 of the manual at the bottom it states that burn-in and IR are NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY!!! Despite not being covered, when I called about the problem, I was referred to the local warranty repair shop and they attempted to fix the problem by replacing the pc boards (not sure exactly which ones). That didn’t help at all. Then they took the tv to their shop. After which they informed me that the problem wasn’t covered. If it isn’t covered why did they even try to fix it to begin with???br /br /I am extremely disappointed with this product.

We bought this set in April of this year and it has not had any problems. I have kept the settings low and only if it is a very dark picture do we see the green flashies. I can overlook this. We have a PS3 and the Blurays are excellent even though it is not 1080P. All in all it was a very good buy. Would buy a Samsung again.

it`s not even 2 years since I bought this tv and it already started crapping out on me, I have been seeing blue patches, pixels moving back and forth on the side of the screen (not a burn in. the patches are moving) definitely killing all the fun and enjoyment. now samsung would charge me $100 bucks just to come and take a look at it, and the technician over the phone said he thinks it could be a defective Plasma screen and would probably be have to replaced with a new one which would cost me a hefty $$$ of course the piece of crap tv is out of warranty and although it`s a defected screen Samsung will do absolutely nothing about the situation unless I pay for it. I have seen a lot of complains over the internet about the same issue on Samsung Plasma`s so I would recommend you to buy LCD, if you set your mind on Plasma then definitely go with some other brand since this Samsung is a huge piece of crap.

  • 11 Paradise

Bought this TV in October 2007 (from Amazon)after spending that summer doing all kinds of research (especially Plasma vs LCD comparisons) I choose to with this Samsung/Plasma due mostly to its competitive pricing, picture quality and standard features. I LCD’s at the time were still behind the Plasmas with picture quality. I originally wanted a 42″ but went bigger and I am so glad I did.br /br /Now lets get down to what you are reading this review for. Once purchased it took about a week for delivery (which for me was way too long but I did have time to find a TV stand). If you are going from a SD TV to a HD TV (as I did) then you will be amazed at the picture quality especially if you are a sports fan. Now SD channels are not that good but are better that a regular TV with 4:3 pull down. Also I switched from Comcast to DirectTV due to the picture quality. Comcast has to use a video compression technique to get HD over the coaixal cable which henders quality.br /br /Out of the box I had a low sounding buzzing noise that was intermittent and if I turned the volume up I wouldn’t hear it. It kinda bothered me at first but I go over it. After reading some forums alot of people experince this with Plasma it’s just to what volume level can you tolerate it. Samsung is aware and have some remedies. Also be aware this TV gets hot and expands the plastic molding which will make a crakling sound from time to time (you will also hear this when you turn the TV off). This issue/concern is addressed in the owners manual. This is just a by product of having a Plasma TV.br /br /After adjusting all the available picture settings I was completely satisfied with picture quality. I have a PS3 (HDMI) and XBOX 360 (Component) and both are beautiful to look at. Please be advised that additional adjustments may be neccessary to get the picture the way you want it. I could write more on this but its my vision vs yours. So remember its what you prefer not me. I am just very pleased with the HD and SD picture quality. I highly recommend this TV.br /br /I do have to say I do get compliments from others (mostly friends and family) on the picture quality they see on this TV.br /br /Now I did have a bit problem that drove me crazy for awhile. Late January 09 I started noticing this rapid pixel flicker of red and green color in dark areas of video content. It only seemed to happen after the TV had been on for awhile (sometimes 30min to 2hrs). I think is was tempeature related. Oh by the way the backt top of the TV gets really hot. So if you have children please be aware of this. Now back to this flickering of pixels you had to be about 3-5 feet away to really see it but after about a month of this I could see it from my standard sitting distance (which is exactly 10ft).br / I called Samsung support and even after a year still issued a warranty work order. The tech that came out could see it (that was good to know because my girlfriend said I was obessed with this. Unfortunately the tech just oredered a power supply board and that realy didn’t fix it. So I called Samsung back and they issued another warranty claim and the TV repair shop said we will get you an interior display replacement (which replaces the display and all boards except power supply and input/output board.). So needless to say Samsung support has been GREAT to me.br /br /Overall— Do your own research. Pick the TV that fits your budget and wants. You already know you need a TV. Don’t be afraid to go big. Go online to the actual brand manfacturer to determine what the models are (entry level vs premium) and features they come with. Then go to the big retailers to actually see the TV. Do be skeptical of picture quality in the store. They use different settings than what you may use in your home. Remeber where you are putting this TV (pay attention to you surrounding light). Then shop Amazon becuase no sales tax. I would’ve paid over 1,000 more if I bought at the BB store. Also not every TV is perfect these are highly technical pieces of equipment and all brands have issues (as you will discover when you do your research). Its how they deal with those issues that sets them apart. As I have stated before Samsung has been great to me.br /br /Hope this review helped you in making an informed decission.br /br /

This TV is nothing short of spectacular. I’m not really sure how you improve on the picture quality. I’d love to compare it to the $10,000 Pioneer plasmas and see for myself exactly what the difference is. I bought mine through Amazon.com for $1358 and had zero problems with delivery and setup. I was leary about buying a plasma TV through the internet and having it delivered without damage. It was fine. br /br /I have a HD cable box hooked up to this TV. Within the range of HD channels, some are better than others in terms of picture quality. It’s not the fault of the TV, but rather the signal strength and how the video was originally created. I would say the overall range is from very good to absolutely stunning. Even on SD channels, the quality is good to very good, but not HD quality. Fortunately, there are a lot of HD versions of the most popular channels out there and I would expect more to be added.br /br /I also bought a Samsung home theater with the wireless rear speakers and the sound is amazing. Don’t rely on the speakers that come with this TV or you will be disappointed. My home theater came with a up converter for DVDs and there the quality ranges from OK to excellent. My DVD copy of “War of the Worlds” was pretty disappointing, but “Pirates of the Carabean: At Worlds End” was excellent. I have to believe there’s a range of quality among DVDs. I believe Blue Ray is the way of the future, but the price of movies is still pretty high compared to DVDs - at least $10 more per movie.

I’ve had this TV for over a year. The TV is easy to use with lots of nice features and it gets a nice picture. After several months of use the power supply went out while the TV was still under warranty. br /br /The customer service and warranty repair service is horrible. It took almost 3 weeks to get someone to the house to repair the TV. Hour’s on the phone with Samsung and all they do is blame the 3rd party service provider that they contract the work out to. This is the last Samsung product I will ever buy. I have purchase 2 additional flat panel TV’s since this TV from other manufactures.

Bought this TV in 8 months ago (January 2008). Very, very happy with this plasma TV. Excellent picture and easy to use remote control. I haven’t had any problems since purchasing it. The side panel inputs are convenient. The contrast with black and other dark colors is great.br /br /The HD channels are great. However, like other plasma’s, the non-HD channels are average at best.

I bought this TV about a year or so ago and I love it. My wife wanted to get a smaller TV and I talked her into this one and it is a great fit. I have it hooked up to Comcast HD cable and it looks great. I also have a Xbox 360 and that is just beautiful. I can’t wait to test out Blu-ray on this TV because I am sure it is going to great.

I bought this TV as a gift to our family. Sears priced it at $899 (although it was $799 there on Black Friday.)br /Pick-up was a bit of a problem since I was told by the Sears salesperson that the TV must not be transported flat (horizontal) and the shipping carton is 36.9 inches tall. My Jeep Liberty and an a neighbor’s Ford Expedition didn’t have sufficient clearance to haul it upright so I used my 16′ trailer to pick it up. A bit of overkill, but it got the job done.br /The picture is terrific as noted in other reviews, and I would rate the set as Five Stars except for the lack of easy-access inputs. I understand that other Samsung plasmas have side inputs but this model doesn’t.br /However, it’s a great TV for the price.
